Things to do in Washington DC

Washington DC is the home for the Smithsonian Museum.  As you may know, it is not just one museum but several, and there is also a zoo. Below are links to all the Smithsonian museums in the area that you can visit while in DC.

The National Mall is also the site of many famous the Memorials. For more information, see here: http://dc.about.com/cs/sightseeing/a/Monuments.htm. The National Art Gallery is also located on the mall.

There are many museums in DC that visitors may enjoy in addition to the Smithsonian-affiliated sites, such as the Newseum, the Crime Museum, the Corcoran Museum, and the Phillips Collection. However, please note that admission to the Smithsonian museums is free of charge, while most other museums are not.

Washington DC is also the location of Rock Creek Park, well known thanks to the popular show NCIS as a place to leave murder victims, and a popular drop site for foreign moles to leave national secrets.  It also has great bike trails and may have fall foliage.

For those of you that are interested in touring our Nation's Capitol, the Library of Congress, the White House, and other sites, please contact your Member of Congress and they can set up those tours for you. All members have tour information on their official websites and there should be a form for you to fill out providing the dates you will be in DC and the tours you are interested in.  The White House is often the hardest to gain access to, so if you are interested in touring it you will need to provide your personal information at least 3 weeks in advance.

Washington DC also has a thriving restaurant scene.  The Washingtonian Magazine recently posted their top 100 restaurants in DC.  http://www.washingtonian.com/packages/food-drink/the-100-very-best-restaurants-2012/

The National Book Festival is happening the weekend of our wedding as well.  This a fabulous event that has authors converge on the National Mall for 2 days.  You can hear them speak and have them sign their latest books.
